Devlog #02 | Week 36

Heiya everyone! My name is Jenny, or as I am known as on the interwebs Ember, and I'll be the one writing this week's devlog. This is the second attempt at trying to write this devlog because I am booboo the fool.

For this week's devlog I'll be going through the process of SIDETRACK's logo design. But before any of that I'll do a quick introduction about myself.

So without further ado...

Hi.. I'm Jenny (or Ember) and I'm probably gonna be the person who focuses most on the "visuals" in our company.  My lifelong dream was/is to become a zoologist, but for now I'm happy and content with developing my skills as an artist/animator. I honestly have no idea what my future holds for me, so I'm just going with the flow, which incidentally lead me to game design. Other than that, I don't really have much else to say. I really enjoy playing Final Fantasy XIV (without sounding cheesy, the game changed my life), and my music taste varies heavily.
Anywayyys....

Logo Development!

After we settled on our company name (being SIDETRACK SB) it was time to start brainstorming logo concepts. So our whole team wrote down whatever associations we had with the name SIDETRACK in the span of 15 minutes.

These were the results:

It was a mess, but honestly helped us all get a better understanding of what we wanted out of our Logo. So after this first stage of brainstorming it was time for me to step in and begin cooking up some rough drafts on some ideas.

After messing around with several different concepts, adding and subtracting on ideas I liked and disliked, I narrowed it down to six concepts that I felt had potential, and brought it up with the rest of our team. One discussion later, and our team decided on the continuation of concept 5 (See attachments for reference). Which meant that it was time to move the idea from paper to digital so I could begin refining the idea.

I started the process of defining our logo in Clip Studio Paint, and once our team came to an agreement of how the general shape and silhouette should look I moved over to Adobe Illustrator. There I could actually work towards a “finished” product. The process while working with Illustrator was tedious, and made me question my abilities as an artist and as a human being… But in the end, I managed to scrape by… At least, mostly. It’s still not 100% there, but the logo will be finished on Monday. Sooo, look forward to it.

Next week it’ll be Felix writing the devlog, so I’ll let him introduce himself then. C ya.
