Devlog #21 | Week 12

Heiya, Jenny here, sorry this devlog is a couple of days late. I decided to head home for the weekend after NGA to recuperate and before I knew it, it was already Sunday.

So, yeah... our team was at NGA, Norwegian Game Awards in Trondheim, so we haven't been able to work on the game much outside of prepwork. So this devlog will mostly just be  our experience presenting Comfort Zone to NGA.

So without further ado.

We left school at around 6:45 AM on Tuesday and walked down to the train station to take a train to Oslo, and from there took a different train to Trondheim. I got motion sick on the ride, so that was fun. When we arrived in Trondheim that afternoon, we checked into our hotels and a bit later took a bus to NTNU Trondheim to attend to the different talks arranged by Start NGA.  To be honest I was quite overwhelmed so I honestly can't remember too much of the evening. I do remember pizza though.

The next day, after some well deserved rest we headed back to NTNU Trondheim, but this time to prepare for the begginning of the Conference/Game Showing we'd be doing. After a bit of struggling, we eventually found our allocated spot, and began setting up our stand.

(this isn't what it looked like finished, just a little work in progress image)

Once we got our stand to look presentable, it was time for deep breaths. Norwegian Game Awards had officially started...
Aaaand yet again I was extremely overwhelmed so my memory is a bit hazy here too. The first shift of managing the stand was split between Felix and I. We mostly just made small talk to those who wanted to try our game and made sure to clean the equipment after each use.
We also made certain to keep in mind the feedback we were given so we could improve on it later.
Afterwards, Sondre and our lovely producer took their shift while Felix and I went to explore the venue, and try some of the other contestant's games.  We didn't have time to test too many games before it was time to swap again...

Before we knew it, it was time for the award ceremony, and although we didn't win or get nominated for any of the categories, it was still an extremely fun experience. We packed down our stand and headed back to the hotel, after some TLC we were all gonna head to a bar for a celebretory social outing, but some of us who were going were under the age of 20, so we had to move our celebrations to a different place.
That place was Burger King.

The next day, our team, plus some others went to have some breakfast before we had to check out of our hotel. Our train left at around 11:00pm so we had a lot of time to kill. So we explored around Trondheim a bit. We went to see Salamandernatten, and then Sondre left us to go to god knows where. While Felix and I shadowed our teachers. Then we ate at a resturant that was at the top of a tower, surrounded by glass. So we could get a beautiful view of Trondheim. Then I ended up getting motion sick again. (The floor at the resturant, slightly rotated, and that was enough for me to feel nauseous.)
Then it was time to head back to our hotel to retrieve our belongings and board the train.

For just some closing words, I will say presenting the game was terrifying, none of us (Sondre, Felix, Jenny) were too confident in our game, and at some points it was extremely difficult to stay professional, but in the end it was an extremely educational trip, and I'd say it was worth it. Even if I was excited to head back home the second we arrived. But that's because I'm a massive introvert who hates touching grass.
Have a good week, bye!
